Samsung and Apple are not just rivals in the smartphone ring, they go head to head in the tablet market also. Both these players have recently released 9.7-inch tablets, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 competing with Apple’s iPad Pro. Let us compare both these devices in brief to have a better picture.
Both the devices are solid, very slim, and feature superb design. Apple iPad Pro measures 240 x 169.5 x 6.1 mm and the Samsung Tab S3 measures 237.3 x 169 x 6 mm. Apart from being slightly smaller than the iPad Pro, Galaxy Tab S3 is also little lighter.
The Wi-Fi only model of Samsung Tab S3 weighs 429 grams, and the 4G model weighs 434 grams, when compared to 437 grams and 444 grams weight of iPad Pro models. Nevertheless, these differences are not easily notable to the average user.
Both the devices feature 9.7-inch displays, but Apple also offer a larger 12.9 inch model for the iPad Pro. The display resolution of both the devices is same at 2048 x 1536 pixels and the pixel density is 263 PPI. What’s more, both Samsung Tab S3 and iPad Pro feature support for 4K video playback.
Galaxy Tab S3 features Super AMOLED display, which is HDR compatible, where as the iPad Pro features an LED backlit display. The iPad Pro display features the True Tone technology of Apple, but it does not support HDR.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and offers 4 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, which is expandable via a micro SD slot. Samsung claims that the battery of the device is capable of offering 12 hours of uninterrupted video playback.
Apple iPad Pro features the A9X chipset, offers 2 GB of RAM and internal storage options of 32 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB, but the internal memory is not expandable as there is no micro SD card slot. Apple claims that the battery of the device is powerful enough to offer up to 10 hours of uninterrupted video playback.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is offered with the S-Pen stylus in the box, but the Apple Pencil is offered as an accessory and the user will have to pay extra to get it. The S-Pen does not need charging and is said to offer the feel of a ballpoint pen while using it. The tip of the pen is 0.7 mm, has a diameter of 9.4 mm, and pressure sensitivity is 4096. The pen is also sensitive to tilt.
Apple Pencil on the other hand need to be charged, and is sensitive to pressure and tilt. This stylus will allow the user to draw down to a single pixel and has a diameter of 8.9 mm. The device comes with a replaceable extra tip.
